Stay Rooted

Empowerment organizes 4 days stay in the rural setup touching 700 urban students to gain a better perspective and a more hands-on understanding of our rich rural art and culture.

The program enables students to understand and experience hands-on organic farming and its importance, the value of eating and living healthy. They could learn to appreciate nature and its bounty and incorporate sustainable tools in their lives. The students are also introduced to sericulture, cattle rearing, prevalent irrigation systems, soil types, sharing of stories, art & culture, Panchayati system that governs the rural areas. With a detailed interaction and a peep into the lifestyle of their rural counterpart students, it enables an empathetic view and importance of initiatives like right to education and right to midday meal.

Community living, cooking on chulhas eating and sharing meals together with the villagers provided them with a glimpse of the tough life led by them as opposed to the picturesque villages that the students have seen mainly in popular cinema. This entire program encouraged an attitude of gratitude in them. Students learnt the beautiful way of acceptance of each others’ uniqueness as well as sameness.

Students are taught to see better, to envision, to persist, to be playful and learn from mistakes, to make critical judgments and justify such judgments,” Tomorrow, as future leaders and policy makers this will impact their decisions and help create an inclusive society and a progressive nation.

Participating schools were: Sanskriti School, Modern School Barakhamba, G.D.Goenka Karkardooma, D.P.S. Indirapuram, Shalom International School and Hamdard Public School.
